The Prince George’s County Council has passed legislation establishing the licensing requirements for Short-Term Rentals in Prince George’s County (CB-11-2018). It also establishes the rules, regulations, fees, penalties and enforcement provisions for short-term rentals. In the shared economy, hosting platforms enables residents to utilize and rent his or her home on a short-term basis. Short-Term Rentals are not regulated to the same standards as a hotel or motel, however, individuals utilizing short-term rentals and the associated hosting platforms acknowledge, understand and accept these differences in standards. Single-Family Rental licenses are different from Short-Term Rental licenses and cannot be used interchangeably.
The Enforcement Division of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE) is contacting the surrounding Homeowner Associations to inform them of this Legislation, and that the online application is currently available for homeowners (hosts) to apply for a Short-Term Rental license. Also, we would like for all (HOA) communities to inform DPIE, Enforcement through 311 or by email if your bylaws prohibit homeowners to use any part of their dwelling for Short-Term Rental purposes (i.e., AIRBNB). If the homeowners are allowed, they must submit a letter from the Homeowner Associations stating this is allowed, and it must be signed by the HOA President, and on the HOA’s official letterhead. This document must be uploaded as an attachment when completing the application process.
